Choreography Stimulus
As a group we voted for our stimulus, it is a picture of a cartoon brain shooting out lines each with different emojis on the end, to represent different emotions and to show us a contrast with the opportunity of perception. To me the stimulus meant there was lots of thoughts and feelings in the brain, showing it was busy and that our minds are easily confused and overcrowded. I also thought because of the emojis that the photo represented technology and social media and that people used social media to express their feelings and, to show their anxieties but also positivity's.
As a group we explored our ideas and made a mind map of what the stimulus meant to us, we then went into detail on what could be the possible themes, stemming from our range of ideas and meanings. we then voted individually on which overarching theme we wanted, and in conclusion we decided on mental health.
So, in our piece we really want to depict dissociative identity disorder (DID), which stems from our theme of mental health. Therefore, we really want to express split personalities and confusion in our piece through this interesting, intricate subject. "Dissociative identity disorder is a severe form of dissociation" This is a process in which happens mentally and means a person lacks connection with their memories, thoughts, actions, feelings, or in their sense of identity.(HEALTH),2020) We think that this topic gives a wide dimension for creativity and offers a lot of opportunity for versatility in movement. Consequently we hope to illustrate the difficulties someone with DID has into someone's mind for example, "feeling little or no physical pain" (Nhs.uk, Dissociative disorders, 2020) and expand the knowledge of the audience watching on the importance it has, and how impactful it is on the life of those affected because, dissociative periods can last "weeks or months" or "can sometimes last for years" (Nhs.uk, Dissociative disorders, 2020).

Hi Portia, well done on your blog I really liked how you included a lot of research on mental health issues like DID. To improve maybe you could include what ideas you may have received from a he group discussions and how this may have developed your own ideas. Hope you found this useful.
ReplyDeleteHi Portia, great blog post. Maybe think about what collaborative ideas we all came up with together and then link it to your DID research which i think is great.
ReplyDeleteHi Portia, this was a great blog and the amount of detail and research in it was amazing. Something to think about is maybe consider the group discussions we had and how that may have affected your opinions or ideas. I hope this helps!
ReplyDeleteGreat blog, I love reading what your opinion on the picture was, I think to improve it would be great if you added in how we came to the decision of the topic of mental health. I love how much research you have done for the topic of DID as well.
ReplyDeleteHi Portia, I really like this blog post. Perhaps include what we did in the very first few weeks of our choreography lessons to help us with creating ideas from an image.
ReplyDeleteGood work, I think that you could tell the reader a little more about the process that you went through in order to choose this picture as the stimulus for your group. I think that you have included some interesting points from your research however to improve this you should link back the research that you have found to what you can see in the image. You have included some direct quotes within this post so make sure they have been referenced correctly with the page number or paragraph number within the in text citation with the full reference included at the end of the blog post.
